Information about the research network
The Competence Network Malignant Lymphomas is one out of 17 Competence Networks in Medicine funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research since 1999. Each Network is specifically oriented towards diseases with a high socio-economic impact. The networks are building
bridges between clinical physicians and medical research, providing a conduit for transferring research findings to medical practice and, conversely, transferring issues arising in practice to researchers. Two further oncological networks are presently funded: the Competence Network on Acute
and Chronic Leukaemia as well as the Competence Network on Paediatric Oncology.
In the Competence Network Malignant Lymphomas the leading German research groups and health care facilities in the field of Malignant Lymphomas have joined forces. The Network combines nationwide:
- the German lymphoma study groups,
- health care groups and professionals in the field of hematology and oncology, radiotherapy, pathology, medical statistics and computer science,
- hospitals and private outpatient clinics as well as
- patients, patients' advocates, and self-help groups.
Outstanding aim of the Network is to combine available expertise and to rapidly transfer it into patient care. Current information on Malignant Lymphomas is promptly prepared and provided for both health care professionals and patients.
